A Country Christmas (1997)An anthology of prose, poetry, carols, songs and folklore, capturing all the excitement of Christmas and New Year. Selected by Johnny Coppin.
Based on Johnny's Christmas concerts, the book includes extracts from many of Britain's finest writers such as Thomas Hardy, Laurie Lee, Mary Webb, Dylan Thomas and Charles Causley. Many of the haunting songs and carols from Johnny's two Christmas albums are included with words and music for the first time, and it is all blended together with country folklore and customs - from Stir-up Sunday right through Christmas and New Year to Plough Monday and Candlemas. This is a selection of British country lore and song evoking the spirit of a country Christmas past and present.
